Meet Benjamin

Benjamin teaches a form of yoga that is best described as Alignment Flow. Within the open and creative format that is possible in a Vinyasa Style class, he weaves in elements of Ashtanga and Iyengar Yoga. His classes are rooted in his own practice and the precision of Maty Ezraty’s teachings. The class sequencing is deliberate, inventive and leaves a strong impression on the body and mind. This style of yoga is accessible to beginner and experienced students, as well as to students who are navigating an injury or specific condition.

Teaching/Practice Biography

In 2008, Ben completed his Foundational Teaching Training at OM Yoga Center in New York, New York under the guidance of Margi Young and Christie Clark.

He taught his first group class on Valentine’s Day February 14th, 2009. From 2009-2020, while living in New York City Benjamin taught yoga on a full-time basis, in group classes, private lessons, workshops and retreats. He has taught at Equinox, Yoga Vida, Kula Yoga Project and Park Slope Yoga Center.

From 2010-2012, he dedicated his time to a Mysore Ashtanga practice at The Shala in NYC and from 2012-2015, he studied the Iyengar Method at the Iyengar Institute of NYC.

Notable teachers that he has studied with are: Maty Ezraty, Carrie Owerko, Tori Milner, Lara Warren, Nikki Vilella, Schuyler Grant, Barbara Verrochi and Kristin Leigh.

Summer 2015, he completed an Advanced Teacher Training program with Maty Ezraty at Yoga Works in New York City. Upon Maty’s recommendation, Ben went to India and practiced with H.S. Arun at the Iyengar Yoga Center in Bangalore, India in Fall of 2015 as part of an Iyengar Yoga Intensive.

During his time in India he also traveled through the holy cities of Rishikesh, Vrindavan, Haridwar and Mysore.

From 2016-2020, Ben focused on weight training, attended Iyengar yoga classes in NYC and maintained his own Mysore practice alternating between primary and intermediate series.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, and all gyms and studios were closed, he depended on his Ashtanga Mysore practice once again, greatly informed by the depth of practice he holds from Maty.

Ben is originally from Kaukauna, Wisconsin and holds an Associates Degree from Central Maine Community College in Building Construction Technology (2023) and a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, (2005). While in his undergraduate program he attended his first yoga class, an Iyengar Level One and set his yoga path in motion.

In September 2020 he and his husband Caleb moved to Maine. After living on Mount Desert Island and in Lewiston they bought a house and now live in the Bridgton and Naples area of Maine. Ben has started teaching public yoga classes again in Bridgton and is thoroughly enjoying the process of building a new yoga community here.
